Navigating the array of activities available for your child can be quite a challenge. Hi, I’m Carrie L. Smith, owner of Little Leaps Early Childhood Dance! As a seasoned dance educator, I understand the dilemma of finding the right activity for your child and family. It's often difficult to know which questions to ask and what factors to consider when exploring new and unfamiliar activities. Here are 5 questions every parent should ask when looking for activities.
What steps do you take to keep children safe? Ensuring your child's safety and health is always a top priority. All youth activities should take steps to hire and train great adults to lead the children in their care. Look for organizations or companies that background check all employees and volunteers, and ask if the staff is CPR and First Aid trained.
What happens if my child doesn’t like it? Trying a new activity can be scary for children and adults alike! It’s important to know what options are available to help find the best class and choice for your child. Make sure to understand and verify contracts and cancellation policies.
What is included in the pricing? Comparing activities can be like comparing apples and oranges. Everyone offers something a little different. Some activities include all the pricing upfront, while others add in extras throughout the season. It’s important to know what you’re comparing when looking at the options.
What kind of training does your staff have? Many youth activities and sports are unregulated, meaning there are no set standards or qualifications to teach or coach. It's up to the organization to decide how to train and develop their team. Check for certifications or accreditations whenever possible.
What sets you apart from other activities? There are many activities to choose from, each offering its own unique culture, values, and vibe! It is important to find a place that shares the values and goals of your family.
